A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Visit Palm Cove Beach and Yorkeys Knob Beach for some beach relaxation. You'll explore and learn at Bones and Jones and Samurai Gallery Australia. Take a break from Cairns with a short trip to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures in Palm Cove, about 44 minutes away. Spend the 24th (Sun) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Spend the 27th (Wed) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's lots more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at St Monica's Cathedral, soar above the sights with a balloon tour, view the masterpieces at Underart Gallery, and trek along Esplanade Boardwalk.
