Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Start off your visit on the 13th (Tue): contemplate the long history of Woolmers Estate. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: stroll around City Park, then appreciate the views at The Tamar Valley, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Cataract Gorge Reserve.

To find maps, more things to do, photos, and other tourist information, refer to the Launceston day trip planning site .

Sydney to Launceston is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Traveling from Sydney in August, expect Launceston to be slightly colder, temps between 13°C and 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Wed) to allow time to drive to Hobart.

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Thu): identify plant and animal life at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, then admire the natural beauty at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, then take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Battery Point Sculpture Trail. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate the long history of Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, engage your brain at Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and then see the interesting displays at Museum of Old and New Art.
