Cairns

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Venture out of the city with trips to Palm Cove (Hartley's Crocodile Adventures & Annie's at the Beach). There's much more to do: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, stroll through Esplanade Boardwalk, and pause for some serene contemplation at St Monica's Cathedral.

Sydney to Cairns is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Sydney in July: high temperatures in Cairns hover around 30°C and lows are around 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 26th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
