Esperance is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately 720km east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. Bring the kids along to Twilight Bay and Lucky Bay. Relax by the water at Cape Le Grand National Park and Wharton Beach. Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
The Albany Convict Gaol & Museum and Forest Hill Vineyard are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Bring the kids along to Emu Point and Nanarup Beach. Venture out of the city with trips to Bluff Knoll (in Stirling Range National Park), Walpole (Walpole-Nornalup National Park, Giant Tingle Tree, & more) and Denmark (Peaceful Bay & Elephant Rocks). Spend the 11th (Wed) observing fascinating marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Little Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Middleton Beach, contemplate the waterfront views at Cable Beach, and hike along Granite Skywalk.
