Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Visit Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and Battery Point Sculpture Trail for their historical value. Do your shopping at Willie Smiths Organic Apple Cider and Cat and Fiddle Arcade. Step out of Hobart with an excursion to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton--about 30 minutes away. There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at Museum of Old and New Art, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, and enjoy the sand and surf at Seven Mile Beach.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Sydney in March: high temperatures in Hobart hover around 25°C and lows are around 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Tue) so you can drive to Port Arthur.
