Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Visit Woolmers Estate and Brickendon Colonial Farm Village for their historical value. Do some cultural sightseeing at Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre and Design Centre Tasmania. Change things up with these side-trips from Launceston: Deloraine Creative Studios (in Deloraine), Beauty Point (Platypus House & Seahorse World) and Mole Creek (Mole Creek Caves & Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary). There's much more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Cataract Gorge Reserve, contemplate the waterfront views at Tamar River, admire the verdant scenery at The Tamar Valley, and browse the fresh offerings at Harvest Launceston, Community Farmers’ Market.
