Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Change things up with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton (about 30 minutes away). Next up on the itinerary: take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, steep yourself in history at Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, see the interesting displays at Museum of Old and New Art, and explore the striking landscape of Maria Island National Park.

Melbourne to Hobart is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. Start off your visit on the 31st (Mon): explore the striking landscape of Freycinet National Park. On the 2nd (Wed), look for all kinds of wild species at Cataract Gorge Reserve, snap pictures at Alexandra Suspension Bridge, then stop by Gourlay's Sweet Shop, then browse the exhibits of Design Centre Tasmania, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at City Park.
