A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Sun): see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Keep things going the next day: take in the architecture and atmosphere at St Monica's Cathedral, then kick back and relax at Palm Cove Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Trinity Beach, and finally indulge your thirst for a good beer at Blue Sky Brewery.

Do a combination of train and flight from Caloundra to Cairns in 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, bus, and flight; or drive. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Caloundra in June, with highs in Cairns at 30°C and lows at 22°C. A lush headland that's part of the forested Daintree Region, Cape Tribulation was so named by Lieutenant--later Captain--Cook in 1770, when his ship ran aground in the area.
Start off your visit on the 25th (Tue): stroll through Myall Beach, kick back and relax at Cape Tribulation Beach, and then kick back and relax at Thornton Beach.
