Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Step out of Hobart with an excursion to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton--about 30 minutes away. On the 10th (Sat), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. There's still lots to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, explore the world behind art at Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington, and steep yourself in history at Battery Point.

Melbourne to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Melbourne in March: highs in Hobart hover around 24°C, while lows dip to 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Sun) early enough to drive to Coles Bay.

Coles Bay

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Change things up with a short trip to East Coast Natureworld in Bicheno (about 30 minutes away). Spend the 12th (Mon) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. And it doesn't end there: admire all the interesting features of Wineglass Bay Lookout, visit a coastal fixture at Cape Tourville Lighthouse, take in the exciting artwork at Waubs Bay Gallery, and don't miss a visit to Bicheno Blowhole.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Devonport: Mole Creek (Mole Creek Caves & Trowunna Wildlife Park) and Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park (Devils @ Cradle, Dove Lake Circuit, & more).
