Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
On the 7th (Mon), explore the galleries of Design Centre Tasmania and then stroll through City Park. On your second day here, admire the masterpieces at Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery, then identify plant and animal life at Cataract Gorge Reserve, and then appreciate the views at The Tamar Valley.

Sydney to Launceston is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Sydney in January: high temperatures in Launceston hover around 28°C and lows are around 12°C. On the 9th (Wed), trek along Wineglass Bay Lookout, get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and then kick back and relax at Coles Bay Jetty. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: explore the striking landscape of Freycinet National Park.
