Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and Battery Point Sculpture Trail. Museum-lovers will get to explore Museum of Old and New Art and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Change things up with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton (about 30 minutes away). On the 29th (Sun), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. There's lots more to do: admire the natural beauty at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, take a leisurely stroll along Constitution Dock, stop by The Wicked Cheese Co., and take in the views from Richmond Bridge.

Adelaide to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Traveling from Adelaide in December, expect Hobart to be a bit cooler, temps between 24°C and 13°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 31st (Tue) early enough to go by car to Port Arthur.
