Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Thu): take in the exciting artwork at Design Centre Tasmania and then admire the sheer force of Lilydale Falls. On your second day here, identify plant and animal life at Platypus House, get engrossed in the history at Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre, and then admire the verdant scenery at The Tamar Valley.

Brisbane to Launceston is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of car and ferry. Start off your visit on the 6th (Sun): Head underground at Mole Creek Caves, identify plant and animal life at Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, and then experience rural life at Ashgrove Tasmanian Farm Cheese. Coles Bay

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
On the 8th (Tue), relax in the rural setting at Freycinet Marine Farm, then learn about winemaking at Gala Estate Vineyard, and then surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour. On your second day here, walk along Wineglass Bay Lookout, then take in the exciting artwork at Waubs Bay Gallery, and then look for all kinds of wild species at East Coast Natureworld.

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
On the 10th (Thu), look for all kinds of wild species at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, admire the landmark architecture of Richmond Gaol, then enjoy the sand and surf at Bellerive Beach, then examine the collection at Mawson's Hut Replica Museum, and finally take in the waterfront at Constitution Dock. Keep things going the next day: buy something for everyone on your list at Cat and Fiddle Arcade, see the interesting displays at Mona, then enjoy the sand and surf at Kingston Beach, and finally take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington.
