A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Visiting Hartley's Crocodile Adventures and Nature & Wildlife Tours will get you outdoors. Relax by the water at Palm Cove Beach and Trinity Beach. Take a break from Cairns with a short trip to Village Gallery in Palm Cove, about 34 minutes away. Spend the 17th (Tue) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. There's much more to do: hike along Esplanade Boardwalk, view the masterpieces at Doongal Aboriginal Art Gallery Cairns, admire the landmark architecture of Freshwater Station, and explore the galleries of Underart Gallery.
